What is the NMBA OSCE?
The Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) is stage 2 of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) outcomes-based assessment for internationally qualified nurses. After passing the NCLEX-RN (stage 1), you sit the OSCE in person at Adelaide Health Simulation, where assessors watch you perform safe, person-centred nursing care across timed clinical stations, judged against the NMBA Registered Nurse Standards for Practice. Passing the OSCE lets you apply to Ahpra for registration as a Registered Nurse.
How to become a Registered Nurse in Australia from India
- Ahpra self-check — confirm your qualification and assessment pathway.
- English language — meet the NMBA English language registration standard (e.g. IELTS, OET, PTE).
- NCLEX-RN — stage 1, a computer-based exam of clinical knowledge.
- OSCE in Adelaide — stage 2, the practical station-based exam. This is where we train you.
- Ahpra registration — apply for registration and start practising in Australia.
Note: an ANMAC skills assessment is used for migration visa purposes only — it is separate from Ahpra registration and does not replace the NCLEX-RN or OSCE.
OSCE Course Content
8-week course — 4 weeks of online classes plus 4 weeks of face-to-face classes, with unlimited access to our high-fidelity manikins and equipment in the OSCE training lab.
10 core OSCE station types we train
- Medication administration — rights of medication administration, checking, calculation and safe administration under Australian protocols.
- Basic life support (CPR) — adult resuscitation to ANZCOR guidelines.
- Patient assessment & ISBAR — focused physical assessment and structured ISBAR handover.
- Wound care & aseptic technique — aseptic non-touch technique (ANTT) and documentation.
- Communication & consent — person-centred communication, informed consent and de-escalation.
- IV therapy & infusions — cannula site checks, infusion set-up, rate calculation and fluid balance.
- Vital signs & the deteriorating patient — escalation using Australian early-warning observation charts (e.g. ADDS, Between the Flags).
- Medication errors & open disclosure — patient-safety response, incident reporting and open disclosure.
- Personal care & manual handling — safe manual handling and dignified help with daily living.
- Documentation & handover — legally sound charting and shift handover under time pressure.

Training Methods
We provide quality, evidence-based OSCE education for internationally qualified nurses. Choose the mode that suits you:
- Virtual OSCE training — for nurses with a busy schedule who cannot attend offline classes.
- Face-to-face OSCE training in India — full offline training in our OSCE lab in Mohali (Chandigarh Tricity).
- Hybrid course — 3 weeks of online classes and 3 weeks of offline classes, plus extra practice time in the OSCE training lab.

Australian OSCE — Frequently Asked Questions
The OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Examination) is stage 2 of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) outcomes-based assessment for internationally qualified nurses. It is a practical, station-based exam held in person at Adelaide Health Simulation, taken after passing the NCLEX-RN. Passing it is required before Ahpra can register you as a Registered Nurse.
Complete the Ahpra self-check, meet the NMBA English language registration standard, pass the NCLEX-RN (stage 1) and then the OSCE in Adelaide (stage 2), and finally apply to Ahpra for registration. An ANMAC skills assessment is only needed for migration visa purposes — it does not replace the OSCE.
